What is Dysport®?
Dysport® is a neurotoxin, similar to Botox, that works by relaxing the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles – the ones that form due to repeated facial movements like frowning, squinting, or raising your eyebrows. It’s FDA-approved to treat moderate to severe glabellar lines (the “elevens”). Dysport® is especially useful for treating larger areas of the face (like the forehead) or areas where a softer, more diffused result is desired.
How do Botox and Dysport® differ?
While very similar, Dysport® and Botox do have some distinct differences. One of the key differences is how they spread once injected. Dysport® tends to diffuse more readily beneath the skin, making it a great choice for treating broader areas like the forehead. Botox, on the other hand, stays more localized which allows for greater precision. It’s ideal for targeting smaller areas or when a more controlled effect is needed.
Dysport® is often reported to take effect more quickly than Botox. Many patients begin to see improvement within 2–3 days of receiving Dysport® injections whereas Botox may take about 5–7 days to develop.
How long does Dysport® last?
Just one treatment may help improve the look of frown lines (the “elevens”) between your eyebrows for up to 5 months. Results of repeat treatments may be comparable to your first treatment. With consistent treatment over time, you may even notice that your Dysport® results last longer between sessions.
